This podcast series focuses on communicating effectively with patients and carers of a non-medical background, who sometimes struggle to assimilate the information they receive from their healthcare professional.
Pfizer Healthcare Ireland partnered with The Communications Clinic to produce these podcasts which feature three episodes exploring different aspects of communication. Each episode is approximately 20 minutes long in duration and are designed to give an in-depth understanding of empathic and effective communication.
This podcast series is presented by Louise Duffy who is an experienced radio and television broadcaster and voiceover. Louise will be joined throughout the series by expert training consultants and guest panelists.
In this episode, Louise is joined by Eoghan Tomás McDermott and Sarah Geraghty from The Communications Clinic and guest speaker Professor Fergus Shanahan, a clinician-scientist and author of ‘The Language of Illness’.
Throughout the episode there will be a focus on the importance of understanding your audience, practical ways to improve communication skills, the curse of knowledge and using simple everyday language.
This second episode considers the importance of listening to be an effective communicator. Louise is joined by experts from The Communications Clinics who speak about different types of listening and how to be a better listener even when time is limited.
This final instalment focuses on the key aspects to building trust and relationships. During this episode, Louise will be joined by Dr. Regina McQuillan, Medical Director of St. Francis Hospice and Palliative Medicine Consultant in St. Francis Hospice and Beaumont Hospital who will share her experience and managing patient expectations.
